Sustainable Forest Services - S-FOR-S - is a Dutch consultancy company that was founded in January 2000.
The mission of S-FOR-S is "to contribute to sustainable development through advice on sustainable forest and nature management".
Activities implemented by S-FOR-S cover a wide range of topics related to this mission and include studies, technical support and project evaluations in the field of community forestry, agro-forestry, forest governance, forest certification, forest legality issues, sustainable forest management, nature conservation, soil-and water conservation, participatory land use planning, poverty reduction, Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) and eco-tourism, among others.
Whereas ecological sustainability is safeguarded, social issues (gender, equal distribution of benefits, tenure rights, health and security issues) are taken care of and economic aspects are developed (chain approaches, creation of added value, legal compliance, market connection).
S-FOR-S provides services to international organisations, government agencies, private sector organisations and local and international civil society organisations.
Among its clients S-FOR-S may count UN-agencies like FAO and UNDP, the European Commission (EC) and the European Forest Institute (EFI), the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS), the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I), the Ghana Forestry Commission, Dutch Co-financing Organisations, the Netherlands Timber Trade Association (NTTA), Keurhout, Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Centre for Environmental Studies of the Leiden University (CML), Centre for the Promotion of Import (CBI), Stichting Milieu Keur (SMK - TPAC), Certisource Indonesia, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and several local or international NGOs in various continents.
S-FOR-S maintains a small core team, but counts with a vast network of Dutch and foreign experts through which it develops activities worldwide. Due to this, overhead cost are maintained at competitive levels. Team spirit, pleasure in and quality of work go hand in hand.
